Exhibitions and events are organised with local bodies
Parcus is keen to make Strasbourg’s car parks more attractive and vibrant and to this end seeks to create links between the car park and the local neighbourhood. As part of this initiative, Parcus brings art into car parks by developing lasting partnerships with local cultural bodies within the neighbourhood.
March 2016 – Bateliers Car Park
Artwork printed on a 5.80 m x 2 m tarpaulin
in partnership with the art gallery L’Estampe
A work by the German artist Peter Klasen, one of the pioneers of narrative figuration, is permanently displayed by Parcus.
Peter Klasen’s works are inspired by urban reality, signs and codes. On the work’s inauguration on 4 March 2016, Klasen said: ‘This work has found its place in the Bateliers car park in Strasbourg’.
In the same spirit, the work of young local artist Alexia Bretaudeau makes an original reference to the master’s work.
May/June 2016 – Gutenberg Car Park
Temporary exhibition Fiat lux in association with HEAR
The students and teachers of the Haute Ecole des Arts du Rhin (HEAR) – formerly known as the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs de Strasbourg – took up a one-month residence on level three of the Gutenberg car park.
This exhibition entitled Fiat lux (Let there be light), showcased 14 very different works including print, photo, video, sculpture, sound and more.
‘Fiat lux’ were the original words that could be read on the open page of the book held by Johannes Gutenberg, inventor of the printing press, on his statue in Place Gutenberg.
Today, six works have been given a permanent place in the car park.
September 2016 – Austerlitz Car Park
Permanent exhibition - Photography by Alain Bublex in association with the gallery La Chambre
In September 2016, the walls of Austerlitz car park were entrusted to the gallery La Chambre, a photography exhibition and training centre created by the internationally renowned photographer Alain Bublex.
‘Creating the unexpected, was the idea of this project which brings art deep within a space often deemed in the urban imaginary as a grey and concrete nothingness.’ Taking special care in the printing, framing and hanging of the images, Alain Bublex has created an original exhibition over the eight levels of the Austerlitz car park. The photography has a precious and fragile air to it, in complete contrast with the car park and its atmosphere.
